"Her level of goofy knows no bounds": Fans poke fun at Kim Mulkey for eye-catching Auburn outfit

Kim Mulkey's LSU Tigers women’s basketball team commanded a 73-63 win over Auburn in their SEC home opener. While the Tigers showcased their grit on the court, the head coach wore a memorable outfit that sparked plenty of chatter. In a nod to “Dress Like Kim Mulkey Day” at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Mulkey embraced the theme wholeheartedly.

The coach arrived courtside in a basketball-inspired sweater. The black sweater featured a white backboard design, an orange rim and a net that extended below her waist.

Fans reacted to Mulkey’s playful attire on X. One fan noted:

As much as Mulkey’s outfit turned heads, the spotlight eventually shifted to her team’s performance on the court.

Kim Mulkey's team's rocky start turned into a dominance

Auburn capitalized on LSU’s early missteps to gain an initial lead. Between the first and second quarters, LSU ramped up their effort on defense. Flau’jae Johnson came into the lane during a fast break, weaving past four Auburn defenders.

The Tigers held Auburn to just 25% shooting and forced six turnovers, into 10 points. LSU shot 67% during this stretch and by halftime, built a 13-point lead. Karyla Gilbert, a transfer from Arizona, scored 11 points on a 5-of-5 shooting. By the game’s end, Gilbert scored 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

The Tigers’ defense held Auburn to 41% shooting overall and converted 15 turnovers into vital scoring opportunities. In the second quarter, LSU scored 18 points and received 15 points from their bench.

LSU will next face No. 15 Tennessee on Thursday. This matchup will mark LSU's first encounter with a ranked opponent on their SEC schedule.
