South Carolina coach shares high hopes for Collin Murray-Boyles in the upcoming season
From an 11-20 overall record in his first season with the Gamecocks, Lamont Paris turned the team around and finished the last season with a 26-8 record and the first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017.
Collin Murray-Boyles was one of the key players in Paris' roster last season. Despite missing November due to mononucleosis, the forward picked up his pace and contributed to the team's run to the second round in March Madness.
Coach Paris has expressed high hopes for Boyles in the upcoming season as he believes the forward is right where he should be.
“It’s hard for me to imagine him being any better physically than he is right now. He’s at an optimal (place), other than maybe cardiovascularly," Paris said per On3. "It’s the summertime, guys aren’t going to be where they’re going to be in November, December, January. His explosiveness, his body comp, his strength, I think it’s as good as it can get right now.
“I still believe his ceiling is incredibly high. And he’s still not that close to it,” Paris said. “He can be a good player and not be that close to it. But the challenge will be: Can he become a phenomenal player as he continues to get closer to his ceiling?”
Lamont Paris also highlighted Collin Murray-Boyles' leadership skills. Despite being only in his second year, the forward, along with Morris Ugusuk, has taken the responsibility of helping new recruits fit better.
