Paige Bueckers is in her final college season and this will be her last chance to win the NCAA championship. The guard has carried the UConn Huskies for most of her college career and this year could change that with players like Sarah Strong, Jana El Alfy and Ashlynn Shade stepping up.

However, the Huskies have been inconsistent and the loss against Notre Dame last week showed that if Paige Bueckers has a slow night, UConn risks losing the game. Coach Geno Auriemma called for his players to step up. At the same time, he has also said that Bueckers needs to be more selfish and take more shots.

In Wednesday's episode of "The Ringer WNBA Show," analysts Seerat Sohi and Chaunte’l Powell called out Auriemma on his contradictory claims.

"People like you have been saying, 'Hey, like we don't really like it. It can be an issue sometimes when your superstar is a little bit too deferential,' Sohi said (2:30). "But watching that game, I'm looking at it and the thing that concerns me at this point is I think that Geno is pretty uncomfortable with hero ball himself."
"Dun Dun Dun. It was Geno all along with the Scooby-Doo mystery. We take the mask off and there's Luigi," Powell added.

Analyst calls out Geno Auriemma's attitude toward Paige Bueckers

During UConn's game against Holy Cross earlier this month, Paige Bueckers struggled as she finished with 11 points. Fans were annoyed with coach Geno Auriemma's comments on his star guard during the half-time break and analyst Rachel DeMita agreed with the mass.

"He basically said 'Well, Paige just likes to stand around. She’s not really aggressive, and she’s not going to go after the ball, so that’s just what Paige likes to do,'" DeMita said on her Courtside Club podcast.
"Many fans have started noticing how Geno makes comments to the media about his players that rub people the wrong way. It’s started to make me think if Geno's coaching style is affecting Paige Bueckers' trajectory and maybe halted her a little bit in becoming the best player she could possibly become.”

DeMita also compared Bueckers' situation to Hailey Van Lith, who is leading the TCU Horned Frogs, putting up big numbers and has lost just one game. The analyst claimed that Van Lith's success was because she was allowed to play more freely, without a rigid system around her.
