The Howard Bison traveled to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday night to open up the 2024-25 college basketball season and were decimated by the top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks 87-57. The Jayhawks have a goal of cutting down the nets this season and completely dominated to get that first victory on the board.

Graduate transfer Zeke Mayo was the star of the game as he recorded a game-high 19 points off the bench in his Jayhawks debut. This game was essentially used as a tune-up game for Kansas as it prepares for a matchup against the ninth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday.
The Bison held a 4-3 lead but never had the advantage on the scoreboard again and were down 46-19 at halftime. The second half was closer, but Kansas never looked in any danger of letting its deficit drop.

Howard vs. Kansas Game Summary
The Howard Bison shot 37.9%, including 36.4% from beyond the arc, and attempted 12 free throws. However, they were 5 of 12 from the free-throw line. Blake Harper led the way with 16 points.
They were able to win the offensive rebounding battle 8-5. However, the lack of fastbreak points was a notable factor in the game.

Vincent is a College Sports reporter at Sportskeeda with close to 6 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Sport Business from Saint Leo University, and has worked with Pasco News Publications and Pro Football Focus.
Vincent's education has helped him approach sports writing from the understanding of what it takes to run a program/team and the business side of it. He has interviewed dozens of players, coaches and analysts and believes he asks the questions readers are interested in.
He ensures that the source is credible and cross-checks information before reporting to ensure accuracy and relevance in his articles.
Vincent doesn’t have a favorite team or player, as he tries to remain unbiased. However, he considers John Wooden the greatest coach of all time and the 1990 “Fifth Down Game” between Colorado and Missouri the most iconic College Sports moment.
For Vincent, College Sports is on par with the pro leagues as it is a professional pipeline with media rights deals and a free agency of sorts. He plays video games and hangs out with friends and family when he’s away from his keyboard.
