LSU guard Flau'jae Johnson shared to the media the story behind her viral collaboration with rapper Lil Wayne during SEC Media Day, explaining how basketball played a key role in making it happen.

In an appearance on the "Paul Finebaum Show," Johnson revealed that she connected with "Weezy" after LSU won the national championship in 2023.

“It was super cool. I actually got the Lil Wayne feature because of basketball, which was crazy. After we won the national championship game, Sue Bird was like, ‘Lil Wayne, are you gonna do a song with Flau’jae?’ And he was like, ‘yeah.’" (2:30 mark)

Flau'jae Johnson also credited her coach, Kim Mulkey, for helping set the collaboration up.

“And then coach Coach [Kim] Mulkey, she was talking — you know, Coach Mulkey knows everybody — so it just kind of happened. And the song happened, the video happened." (2:44)

Mulkey was also featured in the music video for the song.

"That was great. It was amazing. The whole situation was a blessing,” Johnson said.

Johnson, under her rap name Flau'jae, released "Came Out A Beast," her collaboration with Lil Wayne, last month. You can watch the music video in full below:

Flau'jae Johnson is focused on the upcoming season

Despite her off-court endeavors that have seen her collaborate with hip-hop stars, the LSU junior's primary focus remains her preparation for the upcoming college basketball season.

Coming off a solid sophomore year where she averaged 14.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game on 50.4% shooting from the field, Flau'jae Johnson said she is eager to return to the court after her team was eliminated in the Elite Eight last season.

“We’ve got a new team. Every day we have to come in and play hard and try to stack days,” she said. "So, of course, music is where my heart is, but I’m itching to play. I’m itching to get on the floor.” (1:57 mark)

LSU, ranked No. 7, tips off its season on Monday, Nov. 4 at home against Eastern Kentucky.
