Flau'jae Johnson's stepfather, Ameen Brooks, has been one of her biggest supporters during her college basketball career. On Instagram on Monday, he gave another example of that by motivating the LSU star ahead of the new year.
Brooks shared a post that featured a snap of Johnson going close to the rim during the No. 6 Tigers' 83-61 win over the Albany Great Danes on Sunday. While sending a warning to her competition with his caption, he also set a goal for Johnson in next year's March Madness: Get a dunk.
"Dont get caught under the goal in march madness cause I can already see #Big4 dunking #scary #hours #åre #near #mambamentality @flaujae," Brooks wrote.
Johnson, who stands 5-foot-10, has never dunked in her basketball career. She once tried to make one in her senior year of high school, coming within inches during a game between Sprayberry (in Marietta, Georgia) and Wheeler. Johnson was upset with her failed effort after bumping into the wall, but Sprayberry emerged as a 75-30 victor.
Flau'jae Johnson impresses in LSU's victory over Albany
Flau'jae Johnson ended 2024 on a high note, playing a key part in LSU's dominant 83-61 victory over visiting Albany at the Pete Maravich Center in Baton Rouge. Johnson finished with 15 points and nine rebounds along with two assists and a steal in 33 minutes.
The Tigers struggled in the first half, trailing by as many as 12 points in the second quarter. However, they stormed back with impressive performances from Johnson and her teammates, with four players in the starting five scoring in double-digits.
Senior forward Aneesah Morrow recorded her 13th double-double of the season, finishing with team-leading tallies of 20 points and 18 rebounds, while 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year Mikaylah Williams finished with 18 points and five rebounds.
The Tigers' victory extended their perfect record to 15-0 and ensured they finished nonconference play undefeated. The first of their 16 consecutive Southeastern Conference games sees them travel to Fayetteville right at the start of 2025, where they will face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday.
