LSU women's basketball star Flau'Jae Johnson's impact on and off the court was proven once again after a heartfelt message from a fan was shared by her mother, Kia Brooks, on Instagram story. The proud mom shared the message requesting for the Tiger's junior guard to meet two girls after LSU's game against Arkansas on Thursday.
The message says, "hi! You should know that your daughter is inspiring young athletes. We are traveling tomorrow to AR to come see LSU and Flau'Jae in action. GEAUX TIGERS. These two girls would love a chance to meet your daughter post game. Do they usually talk to fans after away games?"
Brooks, who is also Johnson's manager, captioned the post:
"This is what touches my heart the most. I get hundreds of these and I try my best to respond to them all."
Flau'Jae Johnson's mom, Kia, backs LSU HC Kim Mulkey for outburst in win vs Albany
LSU women's basketball beat Albany 83-61 on Sunday. But the game was not without some controversy. Flau'Jae Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, joined the growing voices of supporters of the LSU women's basketball head coach, Kim Mulkey for her outburst over a questionable foul call on the junior guard in the second quarter.
The Tigers were trailing by seven points, when Albany guard Kayla Cooper spun into a double team in the lane and attempted a layup. However, her shot was intercepted by Johnson in what many believed was a clean contest. But the referee did not think so and called a foul.
The call prompted an immediate disbelief from LSU's bench and Mulkey was shown furiously arguing with the referees during the free kick throws. This is not the first time Mulkey has defended her player, as it has become her trademark coaching style.
After the game, Brooks took to her Instagram page to defend Mulkey, writing:
"Regardless of what others may say, one thing is undeniable about our kid's coach," Brooks wrote. "Her genuine love for basketball and her players. Kim's passion for the game is unmatched and truly inspiring. I love it and this is how I want my kid’s coach going to war about mine. You can’t fake this. I'm riding with you, coach."
Johnson delivered a solid performance, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal to lead LSU to 15-0 on the season.
