LSU star Flau'jae Johnson has been making headlines not only on the court but also for her burgeoning career as a rapper. In June, she dropped her first album "Best of Both Worlds," featuring rap icon Lil Wayne.
Johnson credits her mother Kia J Brooks as her biggest inspiration in life, from athletics to music. In an interview with Joy Taylor for 'Like A Girl, show on Wednesday, the multi-talented athlete shared how her mom’s drive was pivotal in shaping her career.
"I think I got my whole work ethic from my mom, just seeing her work so hard to raise me and my brother by herself," Flau'jae said. "I just see how much she work, how much she hustling. I think I just admired that."
Flau'jae Johnson also spoke about how her father impacted her music career.
"My dad, he was a rapper as well. He was killed before I was born, but he kind of inspired me to do music," she continued.
"When I found out my dad was a rapper, that just became my favorite artist, and I realized he was actually successful. Having those memories of my dad and his music and being able to connect with him through music, That's probably like my biggest inspiration in music."
Johnson also mentioned that she learned everything from her father, including music, lyrics, rhythm, and flow.
Flau'jae Johnson emphasizes on winning to get NIL deals
LSU guard Flau'jae Johnson, who has been featured on Amazon Prime's docuseries "The Money Game," arrived in New York on Monday for the promotional tour.
The six-part mini-series follows the story of four LSU stars Flau'jae, Angel Reese, Livvy Dunne and Jayden Daniels on how they navigate the NIL era of college athletics.
"This is what I always tell people. They think like, 'Oh my gosh, you’re getting all these NIL deals. You’re getting all this money.' But if I wasn’t doing somewhat good on the court, that wouldn’t be a thing," Johnson said on SiriusXM College.
"At the end of the day, they still want to sponsor me because I’m a good athlete and we win."
Flau'jae Johnson added that winning is always important to get the best deals. She mentioned that after winning the national championship, she got the best deals of her life because they had so much exposure.
Johnson holds third place on the Women's NIL 100 list by On3, with a valuation of $1.3 million, trailing only Livvy Dunne and Paige Bueckers.
