Dan Hurley's UConn Huskies are all ready for the 2024-25 season as they attempt to win a third straight NCAA Championship. They released a video of their game schedule on Thursday with special help from their mascot, Jonathan the Husky.
"Called in a friend to help with this year's schedule release 🤣," the caption read.
Fans in the comments were split as some found it funny while others did not like the comparisons.
"I hate how much I love this," one fan commented.
"Not pitino’s sword 😂," another wrote, referring to the sword used to denote St. John
"Now that’s how you introduce a schedule😂🐺🐾🐾💯," another fan wrote.
"Hate you guys with all my heart but the sword was a great touch. Props to you guys," one user wrote.
"I enjoyed this release method," a fan commented
"At least give the good boy a steak for his trip to Omaha, not corn," one user joked.
Meanwhile, one fan took offense with the corn used for Nebraska Cornhuskers and wrote:
"Will you guys ever learn? Nice corn jab, a**hats. Maybe this year you guys will win in Omaha. 2-7 lol."
Dan Hurley reveals the special part of being a college coach
In June 2024, the Los Angeles Lakers offered Dan Hurley the head coaching position following the firing of Darvin Ham. However, the UConn coach turned down the offer and later signed a six-year, $50 million contract with the Huskies, extending his stay at Storrs.
On Tuesday, Dan Hurley sat down for an interview with Graham Bensinger where the coach detailed his reasons for choosing UConn over the Lakers.
"I love being a part of this transformation for the last point in a young man's life where you can really have a big impact on how their life is going to play out," Hurley said.
"Like what the man becomes. That, to me, was what I realized that I love about being a college coach that you don't get to do as an NBA coach because that's not the relationship there. "
By choosing the Huskies, Dan Hurley also has the opportunity to continue his historic run and lead UConn to a three-peat.
The UConn Huskies are set to begin their 2024-25 season on Nov. 6 with a non-conference tip-off against Sacred Heart.
