LSU Tigers guard Flau'jae Johnson took a trip down memory lane in the latest episode of her podcast, recalling the time her mother, Kia Brooks, made her join a cheerleading team.

Known for her competitive spirit both on the court for the LSU Tigers and in the recording studio, Johnson recounted on her podcast “Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae” a childhood moment that felt anything but inspiring — her brief stint as a cheerleader.

“I tried to play football, but I couldn’t,” Johnson recalled. “They let me do like one snap at QB, and it was wraps."
“My mom was like, ‘No.’ She made me cheer. I hated cheerleading, I ain’t gon’ lie.”

For someone as driven and dynamic as Johnson, cheering on others from the sidelines instead of being in the action felt unnatural.

“Cheerleading was terrible,” Flau’jae said. “She only wanted me on the team because I could do backflips and stuff like that. Worst experience of my life. I wanted to be on the field, basically.”

Today, Flau’jae is thriving as a dual-threat athlete and artist. On the court, she’s a key player for the LSU Tigers, known for her scoring ability and leadership. Off the court, she’s making waves in the music industry, where her rap skills have earned her a growing fan base.

On the recent episode of her Podcast, “Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae”, the LSU guard and rising hip-hop artist revealed a surprising preference for alternative music over rap.

“I listen to all types of music,” Johnson shared. “I really like alternative more than anything. I don’t really listen to a lot of rap. I listen to some rock though.”

Flau'jae Johnson boasts three tracks on Spotify that have surpassed one million streams: "Came Out A Beast" featuring Lil Wayne, "AMF" and "Big 4."
