Flau'Jae Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, gave a special shout-out to the guard's latest guest on her podcast, "Best of Both Worlds with Flau'Jae." Sharing the post with the guest's face blurred out to her Instagram story on Thursday, Brooks wrote:
"Let's Go, I just love this person‼️🤣💜💛."
With the release of the episode later in the day, the guest was revealed to be Johnson's teammate, Kailyn Gilbert. The junior transferred to LSU after two years with the Arizona Wildcats.
Flau'Jae Johnson's questions for Gilbert revolved around her beginnings in basketball, her work ethic and navigating the transfer portal. When talking about her experience with the Tigers, Johnson asked her teammate to share her thoughts on playing under coach Kim Mulkey.
"Well, here at LSU, (Kim) Mulkey treats us like pros," Gilbert said (26:24). "She's going to expect you to handle your business and when you get on the court, she want all of you and that's something that I felt like I really wasn't getting at my old school.
"Mulkey pushes me like nobody else has ever pushed me. Sometimes I'm like, 'Dang, I'm not sure if I can keep going further,' and just Mulkey just keeps demanding more out of me. Mulkey's a pro coach."
Flau'Jae Johnson and the LSU Tigers extend their undefeated run
LSU, led by Flau'Jae Johnson, is off to one of its best starts this season, winning for the 18th time in a row on Thursday. No. 6 Tigers defeated No. 16 Tennessee Lady Volunteers, 89-87.
Aneesah Morrow recorded her 16th double-double of the season (23 points and 21 rebounds). Johnson recorded 20 points and eight rebounds. Kailyn Gilbert was the Tigers' final double-digit scorer, finishing with 22 points, five boards and two steals.
One of the highlight moments from the match-up was when Johnson drove for a basket but was promptly blocked by Tennessee's Talaysia Cooper. She then fell to the ground as she lost her balance when landing.
However, Johnson got Cooper back as she also blocked one of the guard's shots later in the game. Kim Mulkey praised the guard for her performance in the post-game presser, saying:
"I thought Flau'Jae did tremendous on her (Cooper). That's who was assigned to her."
The LSU Tigers will be hosting Vanderbilt on Monday.
