Kiyan Anthony is growing into an excellent basketball player right before his mom, La La Anthony, and she could not be prouder. Kiyan is a rising four-star prospect in the 2025 class and is set to start his senior year of high school at Long Island Lutheran in New York.
In an exclusive interview with Parents this week, the "Power" star opened up about her teenage son's character and values and how she has instilled in him the importance of integrity and respect.
"I just love seeing him grow into the young man that he's becoming," La La Anthony said. "At 17, you really start to see some of the things that you've taught your child coming into effect with how they deal with the world, how they deal with people, how they answer certain questions.
"And you feel like, 'Wow, all those years of drilling this in his head really paid off.' [Kiyan] is constantly seeing a give-back mentality, and he's learning that because that's what he sees."
La La Anthony and Kiyan often talk about the fun aspects of their lives, but sometimes they also have more grown-up conversations. She previously mentioned that the 6-foot-5 guard does not want her to date anyone and often checks her phone.
NBA icon Carmelo Anthony's ex-wife believes that parents should lead by example and embody the morals that they want their children to cultivate.
Through her "La La Land Foundation," she has been giving back to the community, helping underprivileged kids. La La also makes sure her son Kiyan attends charity events to better understand the importance of helping others.
La La Anthony says Bronny James is an inspiration for Kiyan
Kiyan Anthony and Bronny James have known each other since their childhood, thanks to their fathers LeBron and Carmelo, who are good friends.
La La Anthony has been supportive of Bronny's ambitions and said his rise has been an inspiration for her son. However, she pointed out that Kiyan is focused on creating his own journey rather than following the Lakers rookie.
"He's doing his own thing," La La told TMZ Sports. "But Bronny is an inspiration. He's in the NBA right now. He's crushing it and making history playing with his dad.
"That's family to us, so nothing but the best to Bronny, and Kiyan's doing his thing, too. Makes me really happy."
Bronny James played one season of college basketball at USC before declaring for the NBA draft this summer. The Lakers selected him with the 55th pick to pair him with his dad, LeBron.
