Andrew Carr shared a funny story about Travis Perry and his missing mustache following the Kentucky Wildcats' 88-54 victory over the Brown Bears on Tuesday at Rupp Arena. The pair drew some laughs from reporters as they opened up about the shaving incident that left Perry sporting a brand-new look.
Perry still had his mustache on when the Wildcats last played against Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 21. He tried to trim his facial hair on New Year's Eve but things didn't go according to plan for the freshman guard.
Carr let the secret out when talking to the media after the game.
"I think he forgot to put the guard on," Carr said (per On3). "He didn’t want to do it but he messed it up. And then once you mess up a mustache, it’s all got to go. I don’t know. I kind of just exposed him like that but he’ll be all right."
Perry added more details to the sudden change in his appearance.
"I decided to shave it kind of," Perry said. "I don’t know. My dad was kind of wanting me to shave it. I wasn’t really going to and I kind of messed up using my electric razor. Got a little bit too low and just decided to go with it."
Perry attributed Kentucky's win to him shaving his mustache, believing it brought good luck to the Wildcats in their final game of the year.
"It was a good change. I think we played well after it so we can bank it on that," Perry said.
The new look worked wonders for Perry, who ended his three-point drought in the game against Brown. He drained his first bucket from beyond the arc since November, scoring a long-range shot with 6:42 remaining in the first half.
