“I know what it feels like to have a father”: $1.2M NIL-valued Flau’jae Johnson pays tribute to stepdad Ameen Brooks on Father’s Day

Flau’jae Johnson celebrated Father's Day on Sunday with an appreciation post for her stepfather, Ameen Brooks. Johnson's biological father, Jason Johnson, was killed in a gunfire incident five months before she was born.

Posting a photo dump of her and her family with Brooks, the $1.2M NIL-valued (per On3) Flau’jae Johnson wrote:

"I never got a chance to meet my dad. But I do know what it feels like to have a father.. You came into my life and showed me what a real man should be and I appreciate you for everything, especially taking care of my mama. Thank you for being my bestfriend🫶 .. Stand Up Guy #HappyFathersDay

Jason Johnson, better known by his stage name, Camouflage, was a rapper based out of Savannah, Georgia. Flau'jae has credited her father and the tragedy as the inspiration behind her music career.

"I started off because my father was a rapper. He died before I was born, so he couldn't really fulfill his dream. So that's what I'm here to do," Flau'jae Johnson said. (via Sporting News)

"He was the hardest lyricist coming out of Savannah," she added. "He put us on the map in a way. In the early 2000s, he had bit hits. He was really respected in the industry. And he was about to take off when he was tragically murdered in front of his recording studio in Savannah."

Ameen Brooks explains his role in Flau’jae Johnson's life

When Ameen Brooks married Flau’jae Johnson's mom Kia Brooks, he knew he had a huge responsibility. Therefore, he did not approach the relationship as a typical step-father, step-daughter one.

In an interview with No3, Brooks explained:

“I don’t even call it stepdaddy because I feel like as a position of a dad and I married her mom, it’s like filling the gap,” Ameen Brooks told On3. “Kia’s father got murdered. My father got murdered. Even Flau’jae’s father was murdered.

"She never got to see her real father, so just filling in that gap to whatever Kia already had built with being a single-parent mother. That’s the most (important) part.”

Ameen Brooks takes care of Flau’jae Johnson's growing music career and the travel plans that come with it. She signed with Jay Z's Roc Nation label in 2022. Johnson is preparing for her first EP "Best of Both Worlds" set to release this month.
