Caitlin Clark joined the Iowa Hawkeyes community to mourn the loss of Jamie Cavey-Lang, a former women’s basketball standout and beloved radio color analyst, who died on Saturday at the age of 41 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Caitlin Clark, now a star in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever, paid tribute to Cavey-Lang in a heartfelt Instagram post on Monday.
“Will cherish the special moments we got to share with you,” Clark wrote
The message highlighted the deep bond Cavey-Lang formed with the players and the profound impact she had on those around her.
As the Hawkeyes family grieves her loss, they also celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Jamie Cavey-Lang.
Cavey-Lang was a key player for the Hawkeyes from 2001 to 2005, making a lasting impact both on and off the court.
During her collegiate career, she was a part of four postseason teams and earned numerous accolades, including being a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time All-Big Ten selection.
As a player, Cavey-Lang’s talent was undeniable. She scored 1,265 career points, ranking 27th in Iowa women’s basketball history, and grabbed 506 rebounds. Her contributions helped solidify her legacy as a cornerstone of the program during her time.
After her playing days, Cavey-Lang remained connected to the Hawkeyes, taking on the role of radio color analyst from 2016 to 2023.
One of her most memorable moments in this role came during Caitlin Clark’s junior season, when she witnessed and called Clark’s iconic buzzer-beater against Indiana in 2023.
