Class of 2025 guard Eli Ellis was the latest guest on Flau'jae Johnson’s "Best of Both Worlds" podcast. Ellis, who signed to play for the Gamecocks in November, is preparing for his freshman season in the college circuit. He currently hoops for Overtime’s YNG Dreamerz and has garnered a significant fan base in short amount of time.
The 6-foot-1 guard discussed playing in a stacked SEC next season and the expectations around him with Flau'jae Johnson. According to him, winning in the collegiate level is essential due to the competitive nature of the sport and the regular need to skill up.
"I'm just excited to be in it (SEC)," Eli Ellis said. "I always wanted to be the best of the best, top competition, prove that I can play on that level. Every single year I've been through it where no matter what you do the year before or what you did in high school, its always like (It don't matter). That's the next thing."
As Flau'jae Johnson wished luck to the 19-year-old for his upcoming journey, her mother, Kia Brooks, also showcased support in the comment section:
"I love him❤️," Kia Brooks wrote.
What does Eli Ellis bring to the South Carolina Gamecocks?
Eli Ellis is currently ranked 80th overall on On3’s High School rankings, 16th in the nation among shooting guards and the top player out of North Carolina.
He is one of the most skilled scorers in the country and continues to add to his experience by playing against other top names in the nation. Ellis is a combo guard. He can stick to the shooting guard position due to his ability to score from all areas on the floor and skilled long-range shooting.
His elite handles, ability to create his own shot and find open lanes allow him to operate as a point guard as well. Eli Ellis earned the MVP honors of the Overtime Elite in February after averaging 33.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.
The Gamecocks also have commitments from Ellis teammate Hayden Assemian, 6-foot-8 EJ Walker and 6-foot-6 Grant Polk (#148 on On3).
