UConn to bank on solid lineup to gain first women's national title since 2016
UConn fell short by two points in securing its first NCAA women's final since 2022, as they were stopped by the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in a thrilling Final Four matchup that ended 71-69.
This season, the Huskies are back and are stronger than ever, with Paige Bueckers foregoing her plan to enter the WNBA draft and rejoining the team while Azzi Fudd has fully recovered from a knee injury.
The Geno Auriemma-coached squad also had dependable rotation pieces in KK Arnold, Ice Brady, Kaitlyn Chen and Ashlynn Shade who are willing to take over from players who graduated or transferred last season.
The Huskies also welcome five-star recruits Sarah Strong and Morgan Cheli to the roster and are expected to play major roles in the team moving forward.
On Wednesday, UConn unveiled its 18-game Big East Conference slate where they will play all conference opponents twice except DePaul and Xavier.
The Huskies begin their Big East regular season matches at home against Georgetown on Dec. 15 at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. They visit the Hoyas on Jan. 11 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington.
Aside from Georgetown, they play two games against Providence (Dec. 29 and Feb. 9), Marquette (Jan. 1 and Mar. 2), Villanova (Jan. 5 and Jan. 22), St John's (Jan. 15 and Feb. 12), Seton Hall (Jan. 19 and Feb. 19), Creighton (Jan. 25 and Feb. 27) and Butler (Feb. 2 and Feb. 22).
UConn will host Xavier on Jan. 8 and visit DePaul on Jan. 29 at the Wintrust Arena.
The 2025 Big East Women's Basketball Tournament will be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena from March 7-10. The Huskies are the defending Big East regular season and tournament champion and have secured the double since rejoining the conference in 2020.
