South Carolina sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley shared birthday greetings for her girlfriend, Ja’Meesia Ford, on Sunday. The Gamecocks' track and field athlete, who is also a sophomore, turned twenty, and Fulwiley shared multiple TikTok of the two via her Instagram story with special messages.
"Happy birthday, my love. I love you so much. Hope you enjoy your day!," she captioned a video.
Earlier this month, MiLaysia Fulwiley hyped up Ja'Meesia Ford after she was named SEC Runner of the Week. The couple met during a joint women’s basketball and track and field hangout in 2023. However, Ford had already caught Fulwiley's eye during the second week of school.
The South Carolina guard recalled her first impressions of meeting her girlfriend in an interview with "The State" in October.
"I liked her outfit because she had this ‘schoolgirl’ look," Fulwiley said. "She had on a skirt, and she looked like she was going to class. And I had on my sweats."
Ja’Meesia Ford supports Fulwiley on and off the court as she was seen during South Carolina's heavyweight clash against LSU on Friday and was the guard's date for the Gamecock Gala in April 2024, where they both won Freshman of the Year.
MiLaysia Fulwiley opens up about life beyond basketball
In South Carolina, MiLaysia Fulwiley is a star and is set to lead the Gamecocks on another championship run. While she is known for her flashy moves and excellence on court, the guard seems more intent on life outside basketball
In an episode of "Homegrown: MiLaysia Fulwiley" on the Gamecocks YouTube channel, the Columbia, South Carolina native said:
"At the end of the day, your reputation and your personality are what people remember the most and what matters the most. I’m just trying to become a better version of myself off the court. Basketball is not my whole life.
"I want people to know me as something other than just a basketball player or a flashy player. (I want people to know me) as a nice woman or nice or sweet or kind, just anything like that.
As a sophomore, Fulwiley is averaging 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, while shooting 41.2% from the floor.
South Carolina is on an incredible run with a 19-1 overall record and remains undefeated in conference play (7-0). The Gamecocks will face No. 17 Tennessee on Monday.
