The Indiana Fever took on the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday and Caitlin Clark had a special fan in the stands. Her former Iowa Hawkeyes teammate and Minnesota native Monika Czinano was at the Target Center to see the Fever win 81-74.
Clark finished with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Despite this being an away game, the guard completely owned the crowd as they were seen cheering for her.
Post-game, the former Iowa guard posted a picture of her hugging Czinano with the caption:
"SO BACK!!!!! I love you so much."
Clark also gave a callback to the duo's nickname "law firm" while taking a playful jibe at Las Vegas Aces' Kate Martin, her former Hawkeyes teammate.
"@katemartin Ru jealous?," she wrote
In five seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Monika Czinano averaged 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds. Hawkeyes fans lovingly called the duo "The law firm of Clark & Czinano" as they formed a formidable partnership on the court and led Iowa to its first-ever national championship game in 2023. Clark achieved the same in 2024 with the help of Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall.
Czinano was picked 26th overall in the 2023 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks but was waived afterward. She currently plays for TFSE-MTK Budapest in Eurobasket's Hungary-A Division.
Monika Czinano once spoke on Caitlin Clark's impact on young children
The effect that Caitlin Clark has had on women's basketball is immense. This is not new, as the 'Clark Effect' began in her college days.
After the 2023 national championship loss, Monika Czinano was asked about the impact Clark has on young fans. She said (via 247Sports):
"She's (Clark) a phenomenal basketball player. She's showed that time and time again. But I think the biggest thing is the way she holds herself and the way she plays the game. She's doing it the right way. She's doing it the fun way and being a role model for little kids who want to grow up and be like here. That's a great thing."
"So I think in these past three weeks, she's done so much but it's not just these three weeks. She's been doing it since she decided to play basketball. It's a progression to this point. We all know what a phenomenal basketball player she is, but it's the person she is behind it all that's inspiring these kids as well."
Caitlin Clark was once a young girl looking up to Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx. Now she is following in her idol's footsteps in being an inspiration to little girls everywhere.
