Unranked Tennessee defeated No. 17 Iowa 78-68 in the inaugural Women's Champions Classic at Barclays Center on Saturday. Lucy Olsen led the Hawkeyes with 23 points, but her contribution fell short in the end.
Despite the defeat, Olsen had a reason to smile as her boyfriend, Trinity Tigers guard Grayson Herr, showed up at the game as a surprise. A photo of the couple hugging after the game was shared on Olsen's Instagram story.
"The best surprise ever. I love you," she captioned the post.
Olsen and Grayson began dating in 2023 and are known to share their moments on social media. The couple also celebrated Thanksgiving together with Olsen's parents and Iowa teammates.
Lucy Olsen returns to court after missing two games due to accident
Lucy Olsen returned to the court after a two-game absence due to a knee injury, missing games against Rhode Island and BYU.
During practice ahead of the Cancun Challenge, Olsen jogged off court, tripped and hit her knee on a tile just off the playing area. She received several stitches and missed time on the court.
Iowa coach Jan Jensen gave the update on the senior ahead of Saturday's game against Tennessee.
"It's more likely than not (that she'll play) because she (Olsen) is so tough ... She's practicing, but she's not quite back to herself yet. I hope it feels a lot better in a couple of days," she said.
Olson started for Iowa against Tennessee, which made a strong start and led 10-2 in the first quarter. Olsen responded with 11 points and helped the Hawkeyes end the quarter with a 22-18 lead.
However, Iowa continued to struggle in defense, committing 18 turnovers which allowed the Lady Vols to score 23 points to tie the game 35-35 at halftime. Iowa's defensive struggles continued which led to a season-high 30 turnovers that allowed Tennessee to pull away with the win.
