The 2024 NBA draft prospect Alex Sarr has been projected to be the No. 1 pick by several mock drafts. However, there have been reports in the past few days claiming that the forward had refused to work out with the Atlanta Hawks who have the first pick.

Sarr provided more insight into the claims in a presser ahead of the draft on Wednesday,

"Yeah, I mean, I have a great team around me Bill Duffy (Sarr's Agent) and WME," he said, "and they have been through all of this, I trust them and I am not going to get into the specifics about where I worked out and where I didn't, but I have been doing my best in my workouts and that is all I can say."
"But for me, it is more important to be drafted, you know, at the end of the day. That is what is the most important and you just have to be grateful for that."

Before venturing into the NBA draft, Alex Sarr played one season for the Perth Wildcats in the National Basketball League. He averaged 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 24 games while shooting 52.0% from the floor. NBA teams' interest in the Frenchman comes from him having the most upside in this weak draft class (per ESPN).

Reports suggest Alex Sarr could head to Washington

ESPN's Jonathan Givony revealed that Alex Sarr's refusal to the Hawks has less to do with him not wanting to play for them but more to do with his vision for himself. The Washington Wizards, his reported favored destination, owns the No. 2 pick.

"He (Alex Sarr) prefers to play for the Washington Wizards," Givony said (via Sports Illustrated) "Maybe that is semantics, maybe that is a polite way of saying it, but when you look at the Washington Wizards depth chart and you compare it to the Atlanta Hawks depth chart with Jalen Johnson at the four, De'Andre Hunter, Onyeka Okongwu, Clint Capela.
"I understand their point of view where they are looking at the Wizards depth chart and they are saying, Marvin Bagley, Richaun Holmes, Kyle Kuzma... he probably views himself as more of a three. Alex Sarr probably looks at that and says the opportunity there for minutes and to play a really featured role is really attractive."

With Alex Sarr refusing their interest, the Atlanta Hawks are reported to have turned their attention to No. 3 prospect, Donovan Clingan. The former UConn alum has all the potential and skills needed to make an immediate impact.

Moreover, coach Quin Snyder has experience building a team around a center after Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz.
