Paige Bueckers set to return after recovering from a left knee sprain
The UConn women held their ground last week without star player Paige Bueckers, going 2-0 in the week. Despite her absence due to a left knee sprain, the Huskies secured two Big East victories.
Bueckers is expected to return this week as UConn resumes conference play, facing St. John’s on the road and hosting Seton Hall at home. Her comeback coincides with the Huskies’ rise in the AP Top 25 Poll, where they climbed to No. 6 after Texas dropped a spot following a loss to South Carolina.
Wednesday’s game in New York against St. John’s will see not only Bueckers’ return but also that of redshirt sophomore Ice Brady, who missed the last game due to illness.
UConn (15-2) will play its first home game of the year in Storrs on Sunday against Seton Hall, currently third in the Big East standings. The Huskies and Creighton are tied at the top with 6-0 conference records, while Seton Hall and DePaul are close behind at 4-1.
In other news, freshman Sarah Strong earned her sixth Big East Freshman of the Week title, averaging 15.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists and four steals per game. Star guard Azzi Fudd also made the Big East Weekly Honor Roll, delivering an impressive 22 points per game with a 63% field goal accuracy and 61.5% from beyond the arc.
With Paige Bueckers back in the lineup, the Huskies look poised to maintain their dominance and continue their quest for Big East supremacy.
