UConn guard Azzi Fudd revealed how Paige Bueckers convinced her to join the Huskies. Fudd said she was amazed by the effort Bueckers put in to persuade her to commit to the legendary program.
Fudd joined UConn in 2021 and made the Big East All-Freshman team in 2022. The Olympic gold medalist came to the Huskies a year after Bueckers joined UConn. She is averaging 8.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists this season while shooting 45.5% from the field.
In an X post on Thursday, Fudd gave details about how she joined the UConn Huskies after a “presentation” from Bueckers.
“She actually made this one video on, I think huddle of her high School highlights of her passing to people and she showed it to my family," Fudd said. "Like, she sat down there and airdropped it to the TV and said this is what I'll be doing to Azzi, these are all the passes I'll get her if she comes to UConn next year. She'll get all these open shots. I'm just shaking my head and my parents are laughing. It's a Paige moment.”
One of the reporters then asked Bueckers if she would pass to Fudd after convincing her to join the program.
“Nah, I'm not gonna pass it to her. That deal is over but if I'm open, I'll probably take the shot," Bueckers said.
Bueckers chases Maya Moore's record
Paige Bueckers has been instrumental for No. 2 UConn's success, averaging 22.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists this season. She continued her impressive performance in a 73-60 win over Ole Miss Wednesday, putting up 29 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Her performance took her a step closer to topping UConn legend Maya Moore's record, as Bueckers achieved her 25th 25-point game in college basketball.
The Huskies are set to face Holy Cross (Dec. 4), No. 24 Louisville (Dec. 8) and No. 3 Notre Dame (Dec. 13) in their next three fixtures.
