In April 2023, Angel Reese helped the LSU Tigers win their first NCAA championship in history. Right after, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal declared on his 'Big Podcast' that Reese was the greatest athlete to ever come out of LSU.

Olympian hurdler and bobsledder Lolo Jones, who is also a Tigers athletic alum, disagreed with Shaq and said (via TMZ):

"Shaq knew what he was doing. Shaq's just bored. He's coming off hip surgery. He's chilling at home. I think Shaq, honestly, is high on some pain medicines. The list is so big with LSU."
"We're not hating on Angel. We love to see it. She's cooking. Let her keep cooking. But I'm telling you, LSU track and field is the powerhouse for that university. So, for Shaq to have the audacity to say 'she's the best ever," I'm like, 'Bro, chill on the pain meds,' because that list is arduous. So long," Jones added.

Lolo Jones' feelings aside, Angel Reese did have a historic run at LSU. In her two-year run with the Tigers, the forward averaged 20.9 points, 14.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She was selected to the SEC All-Defense team twice and was named the SEC Player of the Year in 2024.

After four years in college, Angel Reese declared for the 2024 WNBA draft, where the Chicago Sky picked her No. 7 and has already established her presence on the Sky roster.

In 23 games this season, the forward has averaged 13.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. She is a regular starter playing an average of 31.5 minutes.

Reese also set the WNBA record for most double-doubles in a season (15). Her streak was broken during the 81-67 loss to the New York Liberty last Saturday.

The previous record-holder was Candace Parker (12), who did it as a 29-year-old in her eighth season in the WNBA. Reese's achievement while still being a rookie makes it more impressive.

Shaq shares his favorite aspect of Angel Reese's game

Shaquille O'Neal has always been vocal about his support for Angel Reese. In a recent interview with ESPN, he highlighted the forward's confidence in herself and her record of always proving people wrong with her hard work.

"She made the comment the other day she was born like this, and it's true. Her mentality, the way she plays — no nonsense, she's going to say what's on her mind, going to play the way she plays," O'Neal said (via Sports Illustrated).
"I love that about her. When I first met her, we had a little challenge thing, she said she could outshoot me. I said, 'No, you can't outshoot me.' I've been a fan ever since then. She's won a championship. She's the type that, if you doubt her, she's going to step up and play," he added.

With her achievements in college and now in the WNBA, Angel Reese is proving Shaq's statement from 2023 to be absolutely right.
