Paige Bueckers is known in the college basketball realm for her elite ability to score. She is climbing up UConn's all-time scoring chart, making a former Husky nervous.
In a video SNY uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, Gary Apple, Kara Wolters, Meg Culmo, and Allen Bestwick discussed Paige Bueckers scoring over 2,000 career points for UConn and her impact on the game.
Wolters played at UConn from 1993 to 1997, scoring 2,141 points as she ranks 10th on the program's all-time scoring list. With Bueckers only over 100 points away from surpassing her, Wolters humorously admitted she has concerns regarding her record.
"I'm a little concerned. It looks like if she doesn't break my record, I'd be shocked, but she's definitely gaining on me there," Wolters said (0:10 onwards).
"But let's keep in mind I didn't shoot any threes. Okay? They get there quick because they shoot threes."
Paige Bueckers developing chemistry with Azzi Fudd
Injuries have prevented the duo of Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd from having a significant time together on the court. Bueckers missed the entirety of the 2022-23 season due to a torn ACL. Fudd was also sidelined for the 2023-24 campaign due to a torn ACL.
Despite the limited time together, Bueckers said they have bonded with one another as they each other to come back stronger in their respective returns.
"I feel like we have relied on each other just for strength. Seeing each other go through it, just being able to motivate each other and to be there on the good days and the bad. When you need a pep talk, when you need to talk when you are sad, we are there for each other to support each other in any way possible," Bueckers said.
Fudd had similar sentiments, stating she is getting back into rhythm as she gets more playing time for the Huskies this ongoing season.
"I am still getting back into the flow of the offense and connecting with everyone on the court. I'm just reminding myself that mentally I am going to go in with confidence and being OK with seeing the ball rattle out and knowing that I am controlling everything that I can defensively with my intensity," Fudd said.
Bueckers and the No. 6 Huskies prepare for their upcoming matchup, hosting the Villanova Wildcats at the Harry Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
