Paige Bueckers and teammate Azzi Fudd make the Naismith watchlist

UConn teammates Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd have been recognized as early favorites for the 2025 Naismith Women's Player of the Year award.

On Monday, the Naismith Awards X (formerly Twitter) account announced the list of 50 players recognized as top contenders for the honor. Bueckers, who was the recipient of the award in her freshman season, and Fudd are the UConn players on the list.

Some other notable names on the watchlist include USC's JuJu Watkins, Iowa's Hannah Stuelke, USC's Kiki Iriafen, Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo, Kansas' Ayoka Lee and Iowa transfer Lucy Olsen.

Paige Bueckers was also named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list, as announced by UConn's Instagram page this week.

Bueckers posted averages of 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game as a sophomore before missing her junior season due to a knee injury. Fudd, who was also limited by injury this past season, averaged 15.1 ppg and 1.9 rpg during her sophomore campaign.

Last season, Bueckers made her return to the Husky lineup and led the team to NCAA Final Four.
