JuJu Watkins joined Flau'jae Johnson on her "Best of Both Worlds" podcast, where they talked about their basketball careers and life off the court. Watkins led the USC Trojans to immense success as a freshman last year. The revival of the Trojans program drew celebrities and NBA stars to the Galen Center last season.
In Thursday's episode, Johnson asked JuJu Watkins to name the best celebrity to pull up courtside. When the USC guard picked Kevin Hart, Flau'jae Johnson used the moment to call out the comedian for failing to keep his promise.
"Kevin Hart, you said you was going to come to one of LSU's games," Johnson said. "So, I'm yeah, I'm on your neck. You better come down to Bayou, no cap."
JuJu Watkins has drawn praise from NBA and WNBA legends like LeBron James, Paul George and Cheryl Miller. She recently trained with DeMar DeRozan, who commented on her skills during an appearance on "Podcast P with Paul George."
"Me just giving her different looks of knowing how she goin' be played this upcoming year. Because she killed everybody last year," DeRozan said. "So, now everybody goin' be prepared on how to guard her. So, all the cool s**t wasn't seen."
"She gotta shared that. I can't share ... She's special, I can't wait what she does in college and I can't wait to see how she changes women's basketball."
JuJu Watkins credits her team and USC staff for her confidence
JuJu Watkins adapted to a leadership role on the Trojans with ease as she led the team to the program's first Elite Eight appearance in thirty years. During their conversation on the podcast, Flau'jae Johnson asked Watkins to name the moment where she gained the confidence to be a leader.
"I don't know if it was a specific moment for me," the sophomore guard said. "I just know that the coaching staff and the teammates, they give me the most confidence.
"I feel like when you are in a space where you feel so accepted and you feel like you're able to make mistakes, that's when you flourish the best, like for me at least. So just the confidence they gave me just inspired me to just be more confident in myself."
In the 2024-25 season, Watkins is expected to lead the Trojans to more success as the team tries to find a place in the new Big Ten Conference.
