Iowa Hawkeyes' Jada Gyamfi is making big changes to her appearance as she colored her hair a deep copper red.
The junior forward shared the images on her Instagram story on Thursday with the caption:
"I'm so obsessed. (Emily M. Urban) kills it every time."
The salon, Colorme.urban, joined as the sponsor of Gyamfi's podcast, "Fresh Tawk," in October.
"I love helping keep Jada & her hair lookin’ fresh as her newest sponsor for the podcast Fresh Tawk, presented by Estela’s Fresh Mex! Check out the latest episodes (& my newest ads!) every Tuesday on YouTube!" the caption read.
Jada Gyamfi lags behind as Iowa exceeds people's expectations
In her last two seasons with the Hawkeyes, Jada Gyamfi saw very little time on the court, partially due to the experienced senior talents and also because of injuries in her freshman season. Now, as a veteran, the forward is still struggling to see time on court.
Gyamfi played five of Iowa's eight games and averaged 4.6 minutes per game. Despite this, Gyamfi is crucial to the team as a leader and mentor for the five freshman recruits who joined this season.
"I think the best thing that I can offer them is my voice and my knowledge," Gyamfi said in October. "I care about the team and I think using my voice and echoing everything that she says.
"And also, I kind of know what they're looking for when they get on one of those kicks and they're screaming at us. I know what coach Jay is looking for of us, so I mean, using my voice is the best thing I can do."
Meanwhile, Iowa is on a victory run as it is on an eight-game winning streak. Despite injuries to a key player like Lucy Olsen, Hannah Stuelke and others have taken the responsibility to lead the Hawkeyes to victories. Iowa went from being unraked with the Top 25 to now occupying No. 17 on ESPN's rankings.
Going into the season, Jada Gyamfi commented on the rankings and predicted the team to prove their doubters wrong.
"I don't think any of us necessarily really care what anybody else has to say about us. I've brought it up to the team a couple times," Gyamfi said. "Obviously, Hawkeye fans believe in us but there's not a lot of people that do.
"We get an opportunity every day in practice to prove them wrong and then when the season starts we can prove them wrong as well. But at the same time, it's not keeping us up at night. We know where our value is."
These are impressive words, but they need to be backed by good performances also. As of now, Iowa is managing that quite well.
