John Calipari congratulated his daughter Erin for a major accomplishment. The Arkansas Razorbacks coach tweeted on Tuesday to share the news about Erin Calipari receiving an award from the White House on behalf of the National Institutes of Health.
In the release, outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden awarded nearly 400 scientists and engineers the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding young scientists and engineers.
"I know it’s gameday but I had to take a moment to share this news about my daughter @TheErinCalipari! Erin received a wonderful award if you don’t mind a bragging father saying I’m proud of her!" Calipari said.
How John Calipari was reminded of family's American Dream
John Calipari worked hard to get to where he's now as a college basketball coach in the United States.
It started with him and his family working in a coal mine in West Virginia as he posted a photo of Michael McGuire in October 2022. He's a fellow coal miner who rushed straight from work to bring his son, Easton, to the annual Blue-White Scrimmage that took place in the 2022-23 season when Calipari was Kentucky's coach.
"My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home. From what I’ve been told, after his shift, he raced to be with his son & watch our team. Don’t know who this is, but I have tickets for him & his family at Rupp to be treated as VIPs!!," Calipari said.
It was a great moment for Calipari to look back on, especially regarding his family, as he hopes to continue achieving the American dream during his lifetime.
Back to the present day, league play in the Southeastern Conference has been difficult for John Calipari, now the coach of the Razorbacks. They have lost their first four conference matchups to Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida and LSU, averaging 63.8 points on underwhelming shooting splits of 36.1% from the field and 26.1% from beyond the arc. They have also conceded 74.5 points.
These numbers are far from the level of production they have had during the season. They are 11-6, putting up 78.1 points on 47.9% shooting overall and 34.3% from downtown, outscoring opponents by 10.5 points per game.
Looking to end their losing streak, John Calipari and the Razorbacks will seek their first win in conference play against the Missouri Tigers at the Mizzou Arena on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
