Coach Geno Auriemma gives update on Paige Bueckers injury
UConn head coach Geno Auriemma was asked about Paige Bueckers after the game on the SNY broadcast. He said she is "pretty good" after getting into a "weird situation."
"She'll be fine. She looks good. I'm optimistic, let's put it that way. I feel good," Auriemma said.
Auriemma, the NCAA all-time wins leader, compared Bueckers' injury to one that teammate Azzi Fudd suffered in 2022 when Fudd missed a month due to a similar injury.
"Like when it was with Azzi, it's not the worst thing that we could imagine. So that's great news, considering how awkward it was," Auriemma said.
Overall, the news seems positive for the Huskies star, especially given her past injury struggles. After missing much of her sophomore season, she also missed the entire 2022-23 season after tearing her ACL in the offseason.
In what could be her final season at UConn, Paige Bueckers has been a leader for the Huskies, averaging 19.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, and 4 apg. She is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft.
