Flau'jae Johnson snubs fellow college hoops stars in starting five picks
Flau'jae Johnson has caused a stir in women’s college basketball by leaving out big names like Hannah Hidalgo, Paige Bueckers, and JuJu Watkins when naming her ideal starting five. Instead, the LSU Tigers guard chose loyalty, selecting her current teammates Aneesah Morrow, Sa'Myah Smith, Mikaylah Williams, and Shayeann Day-Wilson.
When asked about her picks, Johnson confidently claimed her team as the best in the nation.
"My starting five? Shoot. My team. I got the best starting five in the country. No cap," she declared in a clip that went viral on Best of Both Worlds’ Instagram.
With a flawless 20-0 record (5-0 SEC), LSU’s confidence will face a serious test tonight against reigning champions South Carolina (19-1, 6-0 SEC) at Colonial Life Arena. This matchup pits Flau'jae Johnson and LSU against a team that has played eight ranked opponents this season, winning seven of those games, including four victories over top-nine programs.
While LSU has only faced two ranked teams outside the top 15 so far, South Carolina’s experience and dominance under coach Dawn Staley give them an edge. Staley currently leads the head-to-head record against LSU’s Kim Mulkey, winning five of their seven meetings, including last year’s SEC Championship game.
Flau'jae Johnson and the LSU Tigers will have their hands full tonight trying to get the W over the Gamecocks.
