After five seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes, including one red-shirt year, Patrick McCaffery will be playing his final college season with the Butler Bulldogs. Playing at Hinkle Fieldhouse means his brother Connor, a part of the Indiana Pacers coaching staff, also won't be far away.
On Friday, the Bulldogs released an introductory, "Meet the Dawgs" video on Instagram, where Patrick McCaffery spoke about his skills and his plans for the upcoming season.
"I would say I'm a pretty skilled forward. I can do a pass-and-shoot. I try to pride myself on being pretty smart in knowing the offense, knowing the defense. Trying to understand scoring, coverages, all that stuff is something that I wanna be on top of."
During his time at Iowa, McCaffery averaged 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He shot 42.5% from the field, including 32.3% from the three-point range.
"I have a lot of experience because I've played a lot of basketball," he added. "I'm a pretty good player and I am ready to showcase my ability. We all have one common goal and it is to win basketball games. The best way to go about that is to treat everybody with respect.
"We're competitive, we work hard. But, you know, it's about team camaraderie. I've been pretty tight with a lot of these guys so far and I'm excited to take it forward. I've played in four NCAA Tournaments, wanna play in five."
Patrick is not the only McCaffery moving to Indianapolis. His younger brother Jack announced his commitment to the Bulldogs in July.
Jack McCaffery lists Patrick and Connor as the reasons he chose Butler over Iowa
Many expected Jack McCaffery to follow his brothers and play for their father, Fran McCaffery, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. However, in an interview with The Gazette, the forward shared that he watched his brothers struggle and chose not to do the same.
“It was really hard for my brothers, and it was really hard for my mom (Margaret),” Jack said. “The fans, they were especially tough on Connor, because a lot of people don’t understand how he affects a basketball game. I saw that, and I didn’t like that. I just wanted to try something different.”
He also explained to CBS Sports that Patrick going to Butler and liking it a lot made it easy for him to choose the Bulldogs.
With both McCaffery brothers playing for the Bulldogs, fans are curious to see how they will bring in the results.
