By now, most college basketball fan is aware of Dan Hurley and his superstitions. One of the most talked about ones is his habit of using only one type of underwear for the entire basketball season.
TruTv's Tracy Wolfson revealed during March Madness that Hurley uses the same red dragon underwear that his wife, Andrea, washes with a portable washing machine. On Saturday, Dan Hurley threw the first pitch during a Yankees vs Red Sox game where he shared more details.
"I only use three during the season. Like, one for the Big East, one for conference and one for tournament play."
When the broadcaster asked about the wear and tear and if he uses them even if they have holes, Hurley replied:
"Yeah I gotta finish the season. We bring a handwasher, and we use the hair dryers in the hotel bathroom. You know, you control the controllable."
Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies prepare for another historic season
After winning back-to-back championships, the Huskies have the opportunity to create history and become the first school since UCLA to achieve a three-peat. While Dan Hurley has already started training, the team has hit a few bumps.
Alex Karaban, the only returning championship-winning starter, has been dealing with a foot injury. Incoming freshman Liam McNeeley hurt his ankle during a workout back home in Texas during the July 4 holiday. Hurley said about that:
"He should've just grilled like normal people, or sat by a poo. But, he's a cyborg."
Dan Hurley has also promised bigger play time for incoming sophomores Jaylin Stewart, Solo Ball and Jayden Ross who didn't see many minutes last season.
"They're right where we want them to be," Hurley said. "We've got some time before November to get them all the way there. But we've been heavy on them."
"We were not as active in the portal as a lot of other programs. We trust our player development and our evaluation of their talent. My job as a coach is to make sure they're in a position to keep us where we're at as an organization."
UConn only added Aidan Mahany and Tarris Reed Jr. from the transfer portal this offseason.
With the roster set, the Huskies stand a good chance of repeating last season's title win. However, it's predicted that they will face stiff competition from Kansas and Alabama, who have made major moves during the transfer portal season.
