Flau'jae Johnson recalled her iconic 'Kevin Gates' celebration from a game against UCLA during the March Madness on her podcast 'Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae.' The moment came after former LSU Tigers star Angel Reese made a jumper when they were trailing the UCLA Bruins.
Speaking on the incident with her mother, Kia Brooks, the $1.2M NIL-valued (per On3) Johnson said:
"I was so happy, bruh. I remember that UCLA ... we were down a little bit. Then we had a, we went on a little run. And then Angel hit the and-one, and I was like, 'Ahhh'. That went so viral. Man, I was so happy, like I used all my energy for that jump. I was so tired after that."
Flau'jae Johnson averaged 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game in her sophomore season.
The Tigers failed to defend their NCAA championship as they fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight. The upcoming season will be tough for Johnson and Co. as they are without Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith.
Flau'jae Johnson plans an early exit from college under a special circumstance
The upcoming season will be a big challenge for Flau'jae Johnson's LSU Tigers as teams like UConn, USC and South Carolina are stacked with top players.
However, if they win the championship, Johnson revealed that it would be her push to leave college basketball. In an earlier episode of her podcast, the guard shared that going on a high would be the best scenario.
However, her mother, Kia Brooks, disagreed with her, saying she needed more time in college, at least in the gym.
"Yes, I love it. I love it for you," Brooks said. "I love the process. I don't want you to miss anything. The WNBA is looking like a little rough. I want you to go ahead and get your weight up. I feel like you're good, but those are women out there. And I want you to be all the way, a full-fledged woman before you go out there.
"You could go into the WNBA and do your thing. No lie. But I feel like it's still parts of, you know, mentally, I feel like you can get stronger. These women are out here trying to protect their families and how they pay their bills. So, I just want it to be peaceful for you."
The odds are not in her favor, but it remains to be seen if Flau'jae Johnson and her team could pull a miracle and win another title.
