The showdown between the two powerhouse teams lived up to the hype, with No. 10 Kentucky and No. 6 Florida showcasing their high-powered offenses. The teams combined for 206 points, prompting Pope to ask the journalists in attendance how they felt about the game.
"If you guys didn't have fun, you should quit right now and find a new job," Pope said (Timestamp 0:08).
Mark Pope went on to praise the quality of the game, highlighting the intensity and skill displayed by both teams in their SEC opener. Florida shot 55.0%, while Kentucky drained 14 3-pointers at a high 48.3% clip.
"That was just an elite level. Physicality. Bloodbath. Competitive. Just incredible performance after incredible performance going down the line. A great game. How fun is this SEC league going to be?"
Pope also commended the Florida Gators, who entered the game with a perfect 13-0 record.
"Congratulations to Florida, they’ve had an incredible start to the season," Pope said. "They have big-time players who are really competing at a high level and guys who are really dialed into their particular roles on that team."
Mark Pope gave the Wildcats their flowers for standing tall against one of the best teams in the nation.
"I couldn’t be more proud of our guys," Pope said. "They just battled and battled and battled. Sometimes, we’re not great, but these guys got so much fight in them, so much together in them and so much resilience."
Koby Brea delivers for Mark Pope in Kentucky's win over Florida
Mark Pope had Koby Brea to thank for the Kentucky Wildcats' victory over the Florida Gators. Brea provided a spark off the bench, scoring a team-high 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Most of his damage came from beyond the arc, where he sank seven of nine 3-point attempts.
It wasn't just Brea who punished Florida's defense as all five of Kentucky's starters scored in double figures. Lamont Butler and Otega Oweh contributed, scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively.
Amari Williams added 15 points, while Andrew Carr and Jaxson Robinson each scored 14 points for the Wildcats, who improved their overall record to 12-2.
