McKenzie Forbes took to Instagram to share some throwback snaps with former USC teammate JuJu Watkins and Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink. The carousel featured photos from Forbes’ journey in college and the WNBA so far. She also shared a photo from her graduation day from the University of Southern California that her WNBA teammates celebrated with her.
Forbes was selected in the WNBA draft this year by the Sparks. However, that union was short-lived as the team waived her earlier this month. Her latest social media post expressed her gratitude for her journey so far.
“Gratitude,” she captioned the Instagram post.
Apart from photos with Watkins and Brink, the throwback post featured some of her solo snaps and also with her friends. She also included snippets from her time holidaying during the offseason. All in all, Forbes encapsulated her entire journey as a college basketball player and beyond in a single post for the fans to see.
McKenzie Forbes started her college career with the California Golden Bears in the 2018-19 season. She then moved to Harvard the next season and redshirted for the Crimson her first year before becoming a regular.
After shining in the Ivy League conference for two seasons, she moved to USC for her final year in college basketball, dropping an average of 14.3 points per game.
The Los Angeles Sparks waived McKenzie Forbes
The Sparks picked McKenzie Forbes in the third round of the WNBA 2024 draft last month. She hoped to become the teammate of her longtime rival Cameron Brink in Los Angeles. The Folsom native had also expressed excitement about the prospect after the draft.
“I think we’re excited to finally be on the same team," Forbes said in April (h/t The Mirror). "I think both of us kind of expressed that we’ve been playing against each other for a long time. I think the first time I saw her, she was maybe an eighth grader or a freshman when I was a sophomore.”
But the Sparks let go of the guard in less than a month. She played just eight minutes of basketball in the preseason before being cut from the roster before the start of the WNBA season.
