Jan Jensen took to Instagram to update fans about her recruitment visit for the Iowa women's basketball program. She took off from Cedar Rapids, saying that she was off to see some young guns and ‘fueled’ herself up before take off.
The Hawkeyes lost several key players in the offseason, the biggest being Caitlin Clark who now plays for Indiana Fever in the WNBA. It is now up to the head coach to scout for new talent and try to fill the gap left by all the departures.
As Jensen looks for the next big thing in women's collegiate hoops, here's what she said before her flight:
“Hittin’ the friendly skies to see some Top Young Guns,” she wrote in one of her stories from the airport.
In another snap shared by Jensen, she could be seen sitting in the airplane while sipping some coffee. She wrote:
“Yep! I got my fuel! Wheels up to see some hoops! Let's Goooo!!!”
Jensen was promoted to the role of head coach at Iowa after her predecessor Lisa Bluder announced her retirement after the 2023-24 season. Before taking over the program, she spent the last 24 years as the Hawkeyes’ associate head coach. It remains to be seen how she handles the team that reached consecutive national title games without winning one.
Emotional scenes at Jan Jensen’s introductory press conference
Last month when Jensen officially took over as the Iowa head coach, her introductory press conference turned a little emotional. She choked up while talking about her biggest fans, her parents and brother, who were watching down on her.
"You talk about fans, they were my biggest. They would have loved this day, especially in a small town. Those of you from a small town, it's a big deal when you succeed in anything... My parents, they really taught me a lot and gave me my foundation. My brother, before I ever had a coach I had a brother.”
While Jensen's mom passed away during the 2015 season, her brother had a sudden heart attack in 2020. Her father died in 2023, the day the Hawkeyes registered their Elite Eight victory en route to their first of consecutive national championship games.
