The UConn Huskies are preparing for another great season and had special guests to cheer them on. 2024 NBA prospect Donovan Clingan and Dan Hurley's son Andrew dropped by the Huskies training facility on Saturday.
The UConn MBB social media handles posted the picture on X and Instagram with the caption:
"A couple familiar faces in Storrs today 👀"
Coach Hurley quote tweeted the post on X and wrote:
"Cling Kong and the Closer!!"
Andrew Hurley spent four years with the UConn Huskies and famously dribbled out in the final few seconds of the NCAA tournament final against Purdue.
Donovan Clingan's draft stock rapidly rises, going as a potential No. 1 pick
Donovan Clingan has always been a potential top 5 pick after his impressive two seasons with the UConn Huskies. However, individual workout sessions with the Atlanta Hawks have made the center their top prospect. Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer wrote:
“If the Hawks trade down, UConn center Donovan Clingan could be their target after he impressed the team in a private workout last week. Even if the Hawks stay put, Clingan could still be their first choice, with G League Ignite forward Matas Buzelis being a dark horse candidate.”
ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel also shared a similar thought as he wrote:
“UConn's Donovan Clingan is a player the Hawks have done their research on in recent weeks, leading to the belief that the Hawks are open to the idea of moving down a few spots.”
In his sophomore year at UConn, Donovan Clingan averaged 13.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.5 blocks. He shot 63.9% from the field while playing just 22.5 minutes per game. Clingan was the Huskies' primary rim-protector and played a crucial role in their back-to-back championship wins.
In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Jonathan Givony wrote:
"Clingan is a top-three prospect who might experience a minor drop on draft night because teams that are in the Nos. 3-6 range already have starting centers in place. He's in conversation at No. 1 after working out in Atlanta (which is exploring trade-down scenarios).
"Clingan isn't expected to drop past the Portland Trail Blazers at No. 7, whom he just visited for a private workout as well. He is being discussed among teams as a possible target for the likes of Chicago, Memphis, Oklahoma City, or Utah, who all might explore trading up for a player in his mold."
