Flau'jae Johnson talks about the importance of a strong NIL profile
With the introduction of NIL in 2021, student-athletes have been able to cash in on their popularity and earn big time. Flau'jae Johnson has been leading the game and in an interview with WJCL, the guard explained the importance of the deals.
"Sometimes it's not even about the money; you know, sometimes you learn that it's about building relationships and connections," Johnson told WJCL 22 News. "So even my freshman year, even now, if I feel like a deal is worth it, I'll like to exchange something like, OK, maybe it's not as monetary, but it's something else."
"I always try to tell people because, like, everybody's not on my level, and I feel like they're a different level. So I always try to tell them, like maximize your level. Like, you know what I'm saying? Just bring some value, like they want you to represent their brand for some reason," Johnson said.
Flau'jae Johnson also revealed (via On3) that she has a strong team of advisors at her disposal to help make the right choices.
"While I stay actively involved in understanding this value, I heavily rely on my team of advisors, including my representation, to negotiate deals that reflect my worth accurately," she said. "They use a combination of market trends, my performance metrics, and personal brand impact to evaluate opportunities.”
Flau'jae Johnson is in her third year of college and is preparing to lead the Tigers on another successful campaign, building on their Elite Eight run last season. As she looks forward to a future in the WNBA, her NIL deals are expected to follow through, setting her up for success.
