Kentucky Wildcats guard Collin Chandler does not just score on the court, he also scored a memorable weekend in New York. The freshman got down on one knee in Central Park and proposed to his girlfriend, Hannah Clark.
A series of photos of the romantic proposal was posted by Clark on Instagram on Monday.
"To the one who taught me how to tie my shoes...I love you!" Clark captioned.
Chandler originally committed to Mark Pope at BYU but followed him at Lexington. He has played in 10 games this season, averaging 2.0 points, on 41.2% shooting, including 25.0% from beyond the arc.
Chandler and then-No. 4-ranked Kentucky team were upset 85-65 by Ohio State at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. However, he still has a big reason to smile as he now has a fiancee.
Collin Chandler reveals why he followed Mark Pope to Kentucky
Collin Chandler was a four-star recruit and the No. 35 prospect nationally in 2022. He took two full years off from basketball after high school and went on a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sierra Leone and London.
This explains why he is a freshman at 21 years old. However, it's not a problem for Chandler as he believes that playing under Mark Pope will help him make up for lost time and make him a better player.
“Ever since I was 15 years old, I know that I’ve wanted to play for Coach Pope,” Chandler said in November, via On3. “I’m glad that I get to do it now. It’s fun every day and he pushes us to be better.
“I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I was going to be learning from coach Pope and that’s exactly what’s happened. I’m learning every day to pick his brain and learn from him every day. It’s definitely expanded my basketball knowledge.”
Chandler may be receiving limited playing time but he is making the most of every second. Pope sees him as an extraordinary talent as he has been performing well despite not playing for two years.
