Iowa women's basketball players Jada Gyamfi and Hannah Stuelke shared an emotional moment following the No. 23 Hawkeyes' 84-63 win over the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday. Iowa assistant coach Abby Stamp posted a photo showing the teammates hugging each other on her Instagram story on Monday.

"Enjoy the zen," the post was captioned.

Iowa junior Hannah Stuelke contributed nine points and six rebounds for the Hawkeyes (11-2, 1-1 Big Ten). She combined with senior Addi O'Grady, who led the team with 12 points and three rebounds, for 11 points in the third quarter.

Hannah Stuelke takes over from Caitlin Clark in Iowa team leadership

Former Iowa women's basketball player Caitlin Clark etched her name as one of the greatest to play basketball at the collegiate level. Clark led the Hawkeyes to consecutive national championship games and exited as the top scorer in NCAA history. She was selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and has continued to shine for the Indiana Fever.

Clark was named the Rookie of the Year after averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a chart-topping 8.4 assists per game. She's enjoying a downtime after helping Indiana to its first playoff appearance since 2016.

Meanwhile, Iowa continues to power on without Clark. Although the Hawkeyes experienced an up-and-down season, they have also seen the rise of new leaders in Lucy Olsen and Hannah Stuelke.

Stuelke has proven that she can take on the leadership role, as she is averaging 14.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 2.9 apg on 47.7% shooting per game this season.

"I think I've gotten more confident on the court, and that'll just continue to grow," the Iowa junior said on media day in October.

As for the Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen, the plan was to build the team around a star player like Stuelke:

"When you have a kid that can do something like Caitlin did, you highlight their strengths."

Meanwhile, Stuelke and the Hawkeyes will hit the road to face Penn State on New Year's Day.
