Caitlin Clark's list of milestones isn't likely to end anytime soon as she continues to have an amazing start to her WNBA career after being the face of women's college basketball for the last two seasons. She has now secured two more awards in her bag at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday.
The former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar was nominated for three awards and won two on the night. She received a lot of praise from the hoops universe after her wins at the ESPY Awards. New Iowa head coach, Jan Jensen, took to Instagram to congratulate Clark on this achievement.
In an Instagram story, Jensen wrote:
"2 ESPYS for Caitlin is "espy-cially" amazing! Congrats Caitlin Clark so proud of you!"
Clark was nominated for the Best Women's Athlete, Best Record-Breaking Performance and Best Women's College Athlete awards. She bagged the latter two after an outstanding 2023-24 season. She was a different phenom on the court for Iowa as she had a big hand in giving women's basketball a new level.
Clark averaged 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 8.9 assists last season for the Hawkeyes as she broke the record for the most points in Division I basketball for both men and women. What happened next was very obvious as she was the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the WNBA.
Clark lost the Best Women's Athlete award to Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson. She has been a key player for them and has led her team to back-to-back WNBA championships in the last two seasons. She also won the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022 and 2023.
The awards were hosted by tennis icon Serena Williams, who also shared her views on Clark:
"Caitlin Clark had an amazing year and is nominated for three awards," Williams said. "Caitlin, you are Larry Bird in that you're an amazing player, you have ties to Indiana and white people are really crazy about you."
