Iowa’s Jada Gyamfi had a hilarious three-word reaction to NCAA volleyball champion coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s interview.
Penn State pulled off an incredible reverse sweep against No. 2 overall seed Nebraska in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament, with the Nittany Lions defeating the University of Louisville Cardinals on Sunday.
Schumacher-Cawley became the first woman coach to win the national championship since 1981 when the NCAA tournament began. This remarkable achievement came just three months after her stage II breast cancer diagnosis.
In a postgame interview, Schumacher-Cawley gave a special shout-out to her hometown, Chicago. She attended Mother McAuley High School, where she excelled in basketball and volleyball, winning two state volleyball titles in 1994 and 1995. She was later inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
On Tuesday, Iowa forward Jada Gyamfi reposted an ESPNW Instagram story featuring the interview and reacted to it in three words.
"She's so me," she captioned the post.
Gyamfi, now in her junior year with the Hawkeyes, is having her best season despite a limited role. Through five games, she is averaging 2.0 points in 4.6 minutes, shooting 66.7% from the field and 50% from the free-throw line.
Iowa maintains strong record
Despite losing Caitlin Clark to the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, the Hawkeyes remain formidable in Division I women’s basketball.
Iowa is 10-2 and 10th in the Big Ten. Ranked No. 24 in the latest AP poll, it continues to showcase its strength as a competitive team.
Three Hawkeyes are averaging double-digit points this season. Lucy Olsen, a former Villanova Wildcats player, leads the team with 18.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 44.6% shooting across 10 games. Hannah Stuelke contributes 14.0 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 7.5 rpg, while Addison O’Grady adds 13.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg and 1.5 bpg in 24.2 minutes as a starter across 12 games.
The Hawkeyes began their season with an impressive 8-0 run but faced setbacks against Tennessee and No. 17 Michigan State in their last four games. However, they bounced back on Friday with a six-point victory over Northern Iowa.
After the holiday break, Iowa will gear up on Sunday for the B1G Home Opener against Purdue, marking its final game of 2024.
