Former Iowa Hawkeyes hooper Kate Martin appeared on the "Fresh Tawk" podcast to chat with former teammate and the show's host Jada Gyamfi. The two recalled fun memories as teammates on one of the most successful women's basketball teams.
The Las Vegas Aces rookie specifically discussed her and Iowa star Caitlin Clark's hobby of terrifying their friends and family members on the podcast. She said she had packed her scariest costumes to take to Iowa in her freshman year but had to keep them in her native town.
After a difficult day, Martin and Clark scared Gyamfi but didn't stop there. They went on to terrify their teammate Sydney Affolter and her boyfriend while the two were cooking in their kitchens. Gyamfi made an honest confession about their habit.
"These people are insane. They need psychological help," she said (o1:07:52).
Kate Martin complimented Jada Gymafi for making her feel at ease
Kate Martin was the "glue" who held the teammates of the Iowa Hawkeyes together. She inspired her teammates and became an effective leader for many on the roster.
However, when not around strangers and fellow Hawkeyes teammates, the WNBA rookie likes to create a comfortable environment for herself. This is something Jada Gyamfi helped her achieve. Martin said on the Fresh Tawk podcast that Gyamfi has always been a source of comfort.
"I love the people who are energy givers, who you see and you don't feel like you have to be on," Martin said (01:01:10).
"You know what I mean, that's how you are for me. Every time I see you I'm like, I just know I'm gonna smile and I can be myself and I can just be free you know? I'm not gonna be drained after hanging out with you."
After Martin's kind words for her former teammate, Gymafi reciprocated the same compliments saying that she, Gabbie Marshall and Caitlin Clark have always made her feel safe.
