Sydney Affolter reminisced about her time with top Iowa Hawkeyes stars who left the program this year. Affolter cherished the memories and expressed her feelings about former teammates like Caitlin Clark, Gabbie Marshall, and Kate Martin.
Affolter has spent three seasons with Iowa and shared a post on her Instagram story with the caption:
"Putting me in my feels.."
Affolter has previously called Caitlin Clark a great player and a great friend. She patched up well with the top scorer of the NCAA Division I, and Clark became the No. 1 pick by Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft.
Meanwhile, Gabbie Marshall went undrafted this year after her college eligibility was over and Kate Martin was selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round.
Sydney Affolter expressed her excitement about playing in the Hawkeyes' ranks last season, as per the Chicago Tribune:
“It was obviously so exciting. We played as many games as you possibly can. The team we had was so special. It was such a great group of girls and we were so close."
The roster Affolter was part of smashed viewership records in college basketball history. Three of Iowa's games were the most watched in college basketball history and the national championship game had 18.7 million viewers.
When it comes to Caitlin Clark, Affolter always had a special place in her heart for the special player:
“She’s a generational player. She’s truly once in a lifetime, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to play with her for three years. She made me a better player."
Caitlin Clark's admiration for Sydney Affolter
Sydney Affolter didn't get much playing time for the Hawkeyes initially, but after Molly Davis suffered an injury, she saw a bigger role. In six NCAA Tournament games, Affolter averaged 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. Caitlin Clark was all praise for her spirit (via WGN9):
“I love seeing Syd be a dog. She’s just a beast out there. I’m so happy for her. That girl has worked so hard. She didn’t always get the minutes her first two years here. Now, she’s really rose to the occasion. She never hung her head, it was always, ‘What can I do for the team? What can I do to make the team better?"
Last season, Affolter averaged 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. She shot 55.2 % from the field and 41.4% from the 3-point range.
