Iowa Hawkeyes junior forward Jada Gyamfi sparked a playful exchange on Instagram after Caitlin Clark’s jersey retirement was announced on Wednesday. Clark was one of women's college basketball's most electrifying players, with a record-breaking career and historic achievements.
The announcement, celebrating Clark’s legendary career with the Hawkeyes, was met with praise from fans and former teammates alike. However, Gyamfi couldn’t resist adding a cheeky twist to the celebration, adding a dose of humor.
“She must've been really good!” Gyamfi commented.
The lighthearted remark quickly gained attention, showcasing the camaraderie and playful dynamic between the current and former Hawkeyes.
When Jada Gyamfi shared secrets about Caitlin Clark
Iowa Hawkeyes forward Jada Gyamfi, speaking about playing with WNBA star Caitlin Clark, shared some inside details about the former Iowa star in April.
Speaking on the Press Box banter, Gyamfi provided one surprising thing about Clark which might not be evident from her fierce on-court demeanor.
“She absolutely loves hugs and being around her friends and family,” Gyamfi said. “She’s so lovey. She’s just so cute. You’d never guess it based on how she carries herself during games.”
The contrast between her on- and off-court personas is striking. On the court, Clark is all business. She thrives in high-pressure situations and fiercely defends her position. Yet, once the final buzzer sounds, a completely different Caitlin emerges: warm, affectionate and endearing.
Gyamfi went further to talk about her experience at the 2024 WNBA draft with Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall.
“I knew Kate was going to get drafted, but we were really there to support Caitlin as her friends,” Gyamfi said. “Everyone expected her to go No. 1, so that wasn’t a surprise.
"Kate works so hard, and there’s no one more deserving to hear their name called. It was truly special to be there for both of them.”
Caitlin Clark’s cuddle-loving personality makes her all the more endearing, proving that there’s much more to her than her talent and accolades. She’s also a teammate, a friend and a person who values connection.
