Kentucky basketball put a promotional banner around the campus featuring four-star point guard Acaden Lewis. Fans quickly noted that all the other players on the banner were recruited by former coach John Calipari.
The poster featured Kentucky alums Tyrese Maxey, De'Aaron Fox, Reed Sheppard and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, all of whom now play in the NBA. However, Acaden Lewis has not yet committed to Kentucky, as he is still deciding on his final choice. Coach Pope and his staff are working diligently to land the top recruit from DC.
"Mark Pope and Kentucky just hit Acaden Lewis with the pro potential hard sell," Recruit News posted on Instagram.
Basketball fans were quick to dive into the comment section giving credit to Calipari.
"It was Cal not Kentucky," one fan said.
"All of them played for coach Cal. Be careful young king," another fan said.
"How many of them did he coach though??" another fan said.
"All them made it under the former Kentucky coach! 🤷🏾♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣," one fan said.
"All Cal guards in that Picture!! We got the 1pg and bout to get the 1cg. HOGS will become point guard U!!! AL ain't even that good!" one fan said.
"redd sheppard up there & not Rob Dillingham or JOHN WALL is crazy 😂," another fan said. "Unsatisfied with the choice of players they put on the banner."
Kentucky celebrates Acaden Lewis' birthday
Acaden Lewis made his second visit to the UK this weekend. He first came to Lexington earlier this summer and recently made a return visit.
The 6-foot-2 athlete also attended the Big Blue Madness on Friday, which coincidentally fell on his birthday. The Wildcats sang 'Happy Birthday' and even got a big three-tiered cake for Lewis before the event started.
"They've been cool and been recruiting me hard. Jasper (Johnson) was at this camp, so he did a little recruiting," Acaden said about Kentucky (per Sports Illustrated). "Their message is similar, they say I can come in and have the opportunity to play. People are leaving next season so it's a good opportunity."
Lewis further narrowed down his school options to four in September, including Kentucky, Duke, UConn and North Carolina. However, Kentucky remains the frontrunner according to several recruiting analysts. 247Sports has projected a 100% chance that Acaden will join Mark Pope's team.
Acaden Lewis averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Sidwell Friends varsity team as a junior.
