AJ Dybantsa is rightly the talk of college basketball as decides on where to ply his trade next year. However, a recent report suggests that he could earn between $7-9 million in college which has staggered many, including sports analyst Bailey Jackson.
Jackson took to Threads on Thursday to question the hefty price tag that Dybantsa is reportedly generating. She wondered why a program like BYU, which could be AJ Dybantsa's first choice, would pay such a fee for the young star.
"Sure, he's the best player in the country, but even with him, they'll be what? Fourth in the Big 12? Something just doesn't add up." -Bailey Jackson on Threads.
Jackson pointed out that the fee wouldn't be worth it for just a few months of basketball before Dybantsa inevitably heads to the NBA.
"It definitely doesn't seem like it's worth seven figures for a few months before he's headed to the NBA."
AJ Dybantsa still deciding on his future
Dybantsa has received offers from BYU, Alabama, Kansas, North Carolina, Kansas State, Baylor and Auburn. In his most recent visit, Dybantsa was given the royal tour at BYU.
When asked by The Salt Lake Tribune about his choices on Oct. 12, Dybantsa said he isn't ruling any school out just yet.
“Still seven [schools],” Dybantsa said. “It is definitely going to be a hard decision. I never had a bad visit. All visits have shown me their best.”
The 6-foot-9 forward has been a celebrated prospect since before he entered high school. He has continued to improve his game and is the No. 1 player in the recruitment rankings.
With his lethal pull-up game and smooth ball rotation, it's no surprise that several schools are vying for his commitment.
AJ Dybantsa has said that he will announce his commitment in February. For now, we can only speculate where he'll land.
