When Kim Mulkey shared her thoughts with the media after LSU's 64-51 triumph over Texas A&M she also expressed her emotion about an incident during the game. Texas A&M traveled to Baton Rouge to take on the No. 5 Tigers in a game filled with intensity and grit. Despite a determined effort, the Aggies fell short.

However, the game’s focus shifted due to an incident involving A&M senior guard Aicha Coulibaly. She landed awkwardly before halftime and was unable to put any pressure on her right leg, leaving players, coaches, and fans deeply concerned. LSU head coach Kim Mulkey expressed her sympathy for Coulibaly in her postgame comments:

"Let me say this, my heart goes out to Coulibaly. I don’t know what her injury is, but it did not look good when she went down, and we’ve all as coaches had that happen. It just rips your heart out for kids." (9:30-9:48)

Coulibaly is a vital contributor to the Aggies and scored 12 points on 2-of-5 shooting before being forced to leave the game. Her absence left a noticeable gap on the court, as the Aggies struggled to maintain their momentum.

Even with Aicha Coulibaly out, the Aggies’ defense remained aggressive, creating opportunities to close the gap but turnovers were their Achilles’ heel. Texas A&M committed 21 turnovers, which LSU turned into 23 points, keeping the Aggies from gaining sustained momentum.

Tigers junior guard Kailyn Gilbert made a key impact off the bench, scoring six points, including two critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Her timely shooting came just as the Aggies had cut the lead to two points.

Flau’Jae Johnson, LSU’s dynamic junior guard, delivered a dominant performance, finishing with 22 points. Senior guard Aneesah Morrow added 19 points and nine rebounds, further solidifying her reputation as one of the top rebounders in the nation.

Despite the loss, Texas A&M showed flashes of promise, particularly from its younger players. Freshman guard Taliyah Parker emerged as a standout, scoring 13 points, recording four steals, and delivering two impressive fast-break blocks. One of those blocks came against LSU star Aneesah Morrow, showcasing Parker’s defensive tenacity.

Senior guard Sahara Jones also contributed, hitting a crucial three-pointer late in the third quarter to trim LSU’s lead to 36-30. However, the Aggies struggled from beyond the arc overall, finishing just 6-of-21 from three-point range.

One of the game’s defining factors was LSU’s dominance on the boards. The Tigers grabbed 52 rebounds, including 22 on the defensive end, which they converted into 14 fast-break points.

Texas A&M’s first fast-break points didn’t come until the second half, a testament to LSU’s defensive discipline and rebounding prowess. The Tigers’ ability to limit second-chance opportunities and capitalize on A&M’s turnovers ultimately proved decisive.

While the Aggies’ defense gave them a chance to stay competitive, LSU’s ability to control the tempo and execute in critical moments highlighted the gap between the two teams.

For the Tigers, the victory marked another step in their impressive season. Now sitting at 21-1 overall and 6-1 in SEC play, they continue to establish themselves as a national contender. With stars like Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow leading the way, LSU’s depth and talent make them a formidable opponent for any team.

Texas A&M will need to regroup as they prepare for their next game against Arkansas on Thursday. With Coulibaly’s status uncertain, the Aggies will need other players to step up and fill the void.
