Before she competes for the first spot in the 2025 WNBA draft, Paige Bueckers is acclimatizing herself to the big-league intensity. Be it watching Aaliyah Edwards ball on the global stage or rooting for Nika Muhl as she battles to make her WNBA dream a reality, the 22-year-old is utilizing every chance to cheer for her teammates.
Bucekers was present in the Climate Pledge Arena as the Seattle Storm faced the Chicago Sky. As she hoped to see Muhl suit up for the game, she was probed about her bond with Muhl and watching her former teammate carve out a WNBA career.
"I'm taking a west coast trip. I'm done with summer workouts. And just decided to come visit my twin. So I'm excited to be here," Bueckers said. "It's crazy, super surreal. Just to watch her live out her dreams and just to know that a few months ago we were basically living together. So, its definitely surreal and I'm super proud of her," she added.
Muhl's Storm suffered a 4-point loss as Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese combined for 60 points on more than 60% efficiency.
All of Seattle's starting five touched the double-digit mark to post 74 on the board. However, due to insufficient help from the bench, they were unable to close out Sky's third-quarter surge.
Nika Muhl's minute concerns continue even in Paige Bueckers presence
Given the history between Paige Bueckers and Nika Muhl, it is easy to say that UConn's point guard was in the vicinity to watch Muhl play. However, Muhl did not step on the court for the entire game.
After a visa-related issue delayed her WNBA debut, Muhl is yet to fully mark a WNBA entry. Through her first 10 games, she has seen less than 30 minutes of court time. Muhl logged 5 consecutive games with less than 2 minutes on the court last month. Her season-high of 7 minutes came earlier this month during a blowout win against the Dallas Wings. Additionally, she has yet to score her first WNBA bucket.
Unlike her time with Paige Bueckers, Nika Muhl is part of a deep frontcourt in Seattle, which is positioned like a super team. Moreover, there is also a chemistry void due to her late debut. With that, there is a possibility that Storms will ease into giving significant minutes to Muhl.
